Founded in 1824, the botanical library now houses nearly 40,000 books and more than 800 periodicals, 122 of which are still in publication.

The collection covers the entire field of plant biology and is distinguished by a diverse selection of specialised works in areas such as systematic botany, geobotany, floristics, horticulture and the history of biological sciences.

Flora are specialised works that describe and sometimes illustrate the plant species of a region of the world. The collection brings together nearly 1,500 titles, in addition to numerous catalogues, guides and other floristic inventories covering the whole of Europe and a large part of the world.

Systematic monographs devoted to a specific group (species, genus or family) constitute another essential part of the collection. These works serve as a reference for the identification of herbarium or living samples.
