Geology
The first mention of a small geology library at the Geological Museum in Lausanne dates back to 1878. However, since 1931, a single library has been supplied by the Museum and the Institutes of the University of Lausanne, a situation that continues today. It comprises 40,000 catalogued monographs, 9,000 geological maps, and more than 1,600 printed periodicals, both old and current, covering topics such as palaeontology, mineralogy, geophysics, and environmental sciences. There is a particular focus on Alpine geology.
A highly specialised working library is located in the administrative offices of the Department of Geology. The main collection is housed in the Earth Sciences Library in the Géopolis building. It is open to the public.
