Herbariums

The herbariums of flowering plants and ferns are divided into three parts:

• the Vaud herbarium, comprising 150,000 specimens exclusively from the territory of this canton. This is a comprehensive collection of the flora of Vaud, which is currently being catalogued on computer;
• the Swiss herbarium, comprising 120,000 specimens from other cantons of the Swiss Confederation;
• the general herbarium, comprising approximately 550,000 specimens from around the world.

In addition to vascular plants, the herbariums also contain more than 100,000 specimens of algae and mosses, as well as a fungarium of approximately 58,000 specimens of fungi and lichens.

The herbarium can be consulted by appointment.
